Engine Class begins

We finished playing with the little toys last weeks and we started digging out the big engines. We have 19 engines to tear down this year from old to new. The smallest is also the oldest. It is a 270 cu. in. four cylinder that we hope to improve the 3010 with. We also have some 466's and of course the famous "666" 7.6L. There are a couple 6.8L's and then a new 24 valve 6.8 Tier 3. Several 8.1 HPCR engines are also is the mix including the one someone last year labeled "Junkyard Dog II" and a fresh one from a 8020 series tractor. Of course we dream about RPM from the 9.0L Tier 3 but we will see. I saved the biggest for last and that would be the 10.5L and the 12.5L. Keep checking back for more pictures. A Little Chery

We found a little Chery (825I gator) engine just laying around and today with a lot of cooperation we got it running. We found out that Matt is a bit of a "Motorhead". Click the post to see the video.

Up and Running

Some of the engines are running and some need a little more time.

A little ways to go!

A little more than carb troubles.

4-valve Turbocharged Yanmar?

The 2.4L lives again.

Take the gator for another round.

State AMSTA Contest

The PAS Agricultural Machinery Service Technician Contest was held last Tuesday at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.

We had a run off test to see who would have the opportunity to compete. The following people qualified to compete at state: Andrew Gissel, Joshua Wittrock, Brandon Gaul, Brenden Christensen, Devin Cole,  Brandon Ubben, Brent Swieter and Nicholas Gross.

Twelve teams from around the state were competing for an opportunity to go to national competition. The contest started at 9am and lasted until 2pm and involved a written test, parts identification and four diagnostic projects. Josh Wittrock and Andrew Gissel finished in second place and Brandon Gaul and Brenden Christensen finished in third place. Both teams will represent NICC at national competition Louisville, KY in March.

Good Job!

Consumer Products Class

We started Consumer Products class a couple weeks ago with the sophomores. We have been trying to make small engines run and test ignition, fuel and charging systems. Here is a short video of one of the gator engines back together and running.

Class Presentations

We spent a little time preparing power point presentations on current products and then they presented them to the class. I have about 4 hours of video but I will just share a few pictures.

Service Advisor Certification

Back in November the sophomores came back from OJT for their final 5 months of school. With 76 John Deere Tech students on campus our parking lot gets a little full but we found room for everyone.

Neil and Rodney helped the freshmen who were busy lubricating the floor and the door knobs with oil in Hydraulics 1. Matt and Duane helped the sophomores who were getting their fill of computers and live connections. The sophomores tested for John Deere Service ADVISOR certification with a 100% of them passing. We also had presentations on biodiesel and JD Link and the sophomores also had opportunities to do a little presenting on their own.

We were busy but we did have time to grill 50 lbs. of brats and we had multiple opportunities for some Kwik Star donuts.

Here is a picture from the biodiesel presentation.

Current Draw and Heat

Here are a couple videos that demonstrates the comparison of amp draw and increased resistance caused by heat. Allow both videos to load and and click play on both at the same time to see the comparison. Note: Click the bottom video first.
