Colton and Clay 9.0L

This engine is a 9.0L Tier 3 with 4 valves per cylinder, variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) and high pressure common rail. The controllers are for a 8R tractor so it requires several of them to be communicating to get throttle response.

Zack and Dane 13.5L

This is a 13.5L from a 9630 tractor but we have the controls for a 9870 combine. This year we added a switch matrix to the cab controller and the ECU. This engine hangs out under the big hoist for a reason.

TED and Brandon 6.8L Tier 3

TED and Brandon worked on a 6.8L Tier 3 combine engine. This engine is a 4-valve engine and we use windrower controls to make it run.

Ian and James 6.8L Tier 3

Ian and James rebuilt a 6.8L windrower engine this year. This engine has an ECU, a cab controller and an armrest with many switches wired together to make it run. Here are a couple pics.

Engine Class 2019

This year for engine class we rebuilt eight engines. We had two 8.1L high pressure common rail engines, two 6.8L Tier 3 engines, three 9.0L Tier 3 engines a a 13.5L Tier 3 engine. We disassemble the engines, clean the parts, measure everything and then put them back together. Once they are assembled we build wiring harnesses and start them up.

John Deere Consumer Products

We moved Consumer Products to the Fall semester this year so when the sophomores came back from OJT we got to play with little engines from single cylinder Kawasaki engines to 4.5L John Deere engines. Almost all of the projects run so it is an exciting class.

Implement Class

In Implement class the students get an opportunity  to work on planters, sprayers, balers and John Deere Precision Ag products. This year we have a new planter unit test stand that we put together to test all John Deere units including the MaxEmerge 5e. We also got a planter, baler and sprayer from Bodensteiner Implement to add to the class. The video is two students Auto Tracking in a new tractor

Class of 2020

The class of 2020 is underway. New tractors, old combines, fasteners, tools, forklift training and a little bit of fun!

100 Years of Tractors

This year John Deere celebrated 100 years of  John Deere tractors. We had 3 items that made the trip to Waterloo for the event.

So it is a prototype 4430. It has a 404T with a Stanadyne pump. Maybe a 4320 engine?? It has an 8-speed powershift. It does not have a door by the brake pedals just a window that doesn't open. The window seals are a little funny but other than that it is pretty normal. It was used to tow tractors around the factory that is why it is painted yellow. So here is your 4320 powershift from the factory it just has some 30 series sheet metal on it. It has 165hp on the dyno. The rear wheels have been moved so many times that the castings are worn from the bolt heads and the SCV's have been on and off it 500 plus times.

The 531 cut-away engine is for a 5010 or 5020. They picked that up a couple months ago and gave it a nice upgrade. It got a new skirt and cover, reinforced frame and a lot of polish. It has a push button switch on it to make it run.

This 4440 is a prototype 4450. It is a 15-speed powershift and MFWD. Many of the castings have numbers that start an "X" for experimental. It is pretty close to a 50 series but it does have some pieces that are not normal. This one has a lot of test hours on it.
